This Teacher Professional Development Course will be presented over 10 modules during which time you will be developing a toolbox of teaching, technology and 21st century skills. In each module you will be given the opportunity to learn more about an innovative teaching strategy, relevant assessment tools as well as some technology skills to assist you in applying what you have learned in your classroom.
As you develop new skills and can show how you use them in your classroom, you will be earning badges that are an acknowledgement of your determination to turn your classroom into a student-centred 21st Century learning space! So let’s get started…
Module 1: Jigsaw
By the end of this session you will be able to:
Use the jigsaw teaching and learning strategy in your classroom. Earn the TECH4RED and JIGSAW badges. Explore and explain the basic use of a mobile device:
Develop Basic mobile skills:
- Use finger navigation to enlarge and reduce screen size, move and choose objects and move between tablet screens.
- Open and use your mobile device.
- Open, use and close an app.
- Take and look at photos.
- Watch a video on your device.
Personalise your mobile device:
- Set the date and time and change the background of the home screen.
- Make the screen display for a longer time before switching off to save the battery.
- Manage the icons on the various screens.
- Create a visual security code to lock the tablet.

- Understand the potential of storytelling as a way to collect artefacts for teaching.
- Implement collaborative group learning into your teaching strategy.

Watch a video. Use a slideshow app to visualise your storyboard. Write journal entries using a journaling app. Take and edit a photo. Use Bluetooth to share files

Use storytelling as a classroom strategy by creating a slideshow that tells the story about the topic in your classroom. Ask your learners to take a video of you telling the “story”. Take a short video of your learners telling their stories. No longer than 2 minutes.

- Understand the classroom potential of various digital resources in a digital library.
- Explore the use of a mobile device:
Access digital library content: eBooks, Electronic tutorials, Simulations, Video and Podcasts. Manage folders and resources. Write journal entries.

Module 5: Mind mapping
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Use mind-mapping as a teaching strategy.
- Evaluate the use of technology versus traditional teaching methods in your classroom.

- Organise and manage information.
- Evaluate apps for educational purposes.
- Explore the use of a mobile device:
- Use a mind mapping tool with learners;
- Use a drawing app as a discussion tool;
- Install, uninstall and manage apps on your device.

Instructions
Design a whole class activity in which students will use a mind map. Develop the mind map on the board in the classroom and then re-create it using a mind map app on your device.
Assessment criteria
What to do
- Write down what your mind mapping lesson is all about.
- Take a photo of the mind map that you/your learners did on the board and in their books.
- Re-create the mind map (in 2) using an app (e.g. Simplemind) on your device.
What to provide
- An outline of your lesson in electronic form. (A photo of written lesson or word file).
- A photo of class/learners’ mind map.

Module 6: Flipped Classrooms
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Use Flipped Classrooms as a classroom strategy.
- Describe the benefits and limitations of a flipped classroom.

- Choose apps that can support a flipped classroom.

Instructions:
Create a flipped classroom lesson plan relevant to your class context and supply supporting material for pre and in-class activities and content (e.g. videos, podcasts, reading material). Use the Flipped lesson plan self-evaluation sheet to assess if your lesson conforms to the assessment criteria.

What to do
- Design a flipped classroom lesson using the Flipped classroom lesson plan template, making sure that you incorporate relevant technology and 21st century skills.

Module 7: Xbox Kinect & Games in the Classroom
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Know how to use an Xbox with Kinect sensor and games as part of your teaching and learning strategy in your classroom.
- Explain a teaching approach which uses games as a way of promoting creativity and discovery.
- Evaluate games for educational purposes, and think of ways of using games to achieve particular outcomes in your classroom.
- Plan a lesson which includes the use of the Xbox.
- Earn the XBOX badge.

Instructions
Use the Xbox Kinect in your classroom. Plan a lesson which makes use of the Xbox as part of the teaching and learning, and then implement the lesson.

Module 8: Field Trip
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the value of a Field Trip as a teaching strategy.

- Explain different uses of QR codes in educational settings.
- Plan, facilitate and assess a scavenger hunt.
- Explore the use of a mobile device:

Design a field trip scavenger hunt for your learners. It can be either at the school, at an outside venue or in your community close to your school. It has to include the following elements:

Assessment criteria
What to do
- Create a Scavenger hunt scoring sheet for your learners, outlining all the activities and scoring requirements that they should do.
- Take your learners on a field trip where they have to complete the scoring sheet by doing the activities.
- Critical reflection of the educational value of a field trip.
What to provide
- The Scavenger hunt scoring sheet with at least 10 different tasks:
- 5 of which are fun
- 5 of which are aligned to the curriculum.
- Photos and videos of your learners doing their scavenger hunt.
- An entry in your journal reflecting on the educational value of the field trip.
Module 9: Gallery Walk
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Use a Gallery Walk as a teaching and learning strategy.
- Plan and facilitate a Gallery Walk.
- Do the GALLERY WALK BADGE.
- Explain what digital identities are and evaluate the authenticity of digital profiles.
- Explain what phishing is and avoid being a victim of phishing.
- Create your own digital identity.

Instructions
Design a whole class activity during which learners will do a Gallery Walk. Create at least 4 different exhibits for your learners to visit. They have to engage with the exhibits using guiding questions and sticky notes or have a place to leave comments.
Assessment criteria
What to do
- Plan a lesson that involves a Gallery Walk.
- Create at least 4 exhibits related to a curriculum topic in your current grade / phase context.
- At least one of the exhibits mustinclude the use of a mobiledevice.
- Each exhibit requires the learnersto think and process informationand contributes to a deeperunderstanding of the topic.
- Implement the lesson with your learners.
What to provide
- A completed lesson plan. (Use lesson plan template in your resource folder).
- 4 exhibits in electronic format (e.g. photos of exhibit and exhibit guiding questions or the exhibits in typed format).
- Photos of your learners involved in the Gallery Walk and the exhibit discussions.
Module 10: Reflection
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain and give examples of innovative teaching strategies.
- Discuss these strategies in relation to 21st century learning skills.
- Create a video or slideshow of your mobile journey.
- Present a slideshow to your peers demonstrating:
- How to use teaching strategies.
- How you can use your mobile device.
- Earn your REFLECTIVE PRACTITIONER BADGE.
- Earn your MOBILE SKILLS BADGE.
- Explore the use of a mobile device:
- Access and save documents.
- Share saved documents using email or Bluetooth or the Wi-Fi server.
- Create and edit a video or a slideshow presentation.

Instructions
Create a slideshow or video about your mobile learning journey and do a presentation to your colleagues. Share all your Memoires reflections that you have created during this course with your facilitator or email it to ict4red@gmail.com.
Assessment criteria
What to do
- Create a slideshow presentation reflecting on your mobile learning journey, the learning and teaching strategy drawn as well as the mobile skills learned.
- Present your slideshow reflection to your colleagues.
- Critically evaluate at least 1 of your peers while they present their reflection.
- Create a timeline of reflections from all your module homework.
What to provide
